Broadway vs. West End

   As we all know, Broadway and West End are two amazing places worldwide due to their famous theatres in which are represented popular plays as The Lion King or Cabaret. Many people think that Broadway is much better than West End, others don't think it. Today, I'm going to show you the differences between Broadway and West End in order you choose what is better for you.

   Firstly, let's see how many theatres have each one. Broadway has forty theatres which are located in Broadway Avenue and in Lincoln Centre. One of the oldest theatres in Broadway is the New Amsterdam Theatre, and there The Lion King was released in 1997, likewise Mary Poppins in 2006. Another remarkable theatre is the Broadhurst Theatre in which Cabaret was shown for the first time in 1996, getting a great success.
On the other hand, West End has also got about 40 theatres. Two of them are the Apollo Victoria Theatre, where the musical Wicked is playing nowadays, and the Cambridge Theatre, in which plays as Chicago have been represented.Secondly, there are a lot of famous people who have worked in Broadway and West End. In 1996, the Spanish singer Ricky Martin acted in the musical Les Miserables in Broadway and also the fantastic Audrey Hepburn in the musical Gigi in 1951. Other remarkable people who have worked in Broadway have been Woody Allen, Orson Welles or Daniel Radcliffe.



   In West End, people as Kevin Spacey won the award for the Best Actor in the play Lost in Yonkers. Another actor who also tried with theatre in the play The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial was David Schwimmer, better-known as his role in the TV serie Friends.

   The first theatre in Broadway was created in 1750 by Walter Murray and Thomas Kean, however around one hundred years before, the Theatre Royal was designed in West End by Thomas Killigrew and buit at the existing Theatre Royal, Drury Lane after some fires.

   Finally, Broadway and West End have got amazing records. In Broadway the musical which has grossed more money has been The Lion King with $6.200. In fact, nowadays a pass to the musical costs about $200. On the other hand, the musical which has got money money in West End has been The Phantom of the Opera with a total of 4000 pounds a years and a ticket for this musical charges around 61 pounds.

   In conclusion, Broadway and West End are two fantastic places for recreation and having a good time. The only problem is that their musical are a bit expensive but ,without any doubts, I invite you to visit both places.
